“Little Ivory Bars”

Sit here to play the keys;

the sound of my heart

trailing down my cheek.

Saltwater drops on a crisp,

white cotton sleeve.

Roll it up with a deep breath

in between notes.

Little ivory bars

carry the anguish

of unspoken cries

as they twist and strain,

becoming something beautiful.

Longing to be heard correctly.

Ebony to give balance and depth.

Always a dance

between the dark and the light.

That’s where the mind’s fight lies.

Never escaping the endless circle.

Someday it will end,

but then my words might leave.
